Become Acne Free
All teens want to know how to be acne free. The truth is that the changes that your body undergoes during the teenage years make it very difficult to control acne. There are, however, some tips and products that you can use to get as close to an acne free face as possible.
Shedding Rumors to Become Acne Free
You’re going to need accurate information to become acne free. That means shedding all of the rumors that will cause you to focus on the wrong things.
Chocolate doesn’t seem to cause acne. Neither does greasy food. Eating a diet that is high in carbs and sugar, however, could encourage your skin to create too much oil, which often leads to more acne. Instead of focusing on what you should not eat, make sure that you consume healthy foods throughout the day. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grains. Taking a daily multivitamin can’t hurt either. If you really want a piece of chocolate or pizza, though, then don’t worry that it’s going to destroy your skin.
Becoming acne free doesn’t have much to do with cleanliness. Pimples aren’t caused by dirt, so washing excessively won’t help. In fact, too much scrubbing can irritate your skin and make the problem worse. Although you should wash your face regularly to cleanse pores and clear away skin oil, you shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that you get pimples because you are dirty.
Choosing Effective Products to Become Acne Free
Choosing effective acne treatment products will help you become acne free. For most teens, though, it is difficult to determine which products are effective and which ones are worthless. There are so many products available on today’s market that it is easy to get confused.
Most of the effective acne treatments contain benzoyl peroxide, so look for that substance on the list of active ingredients. Benzoyl peroxide can break up skin oil, kill bacteria, and introduce more oxygen to your skin. All of these attributes will help you become acne free.
Some teenagers don’t respond well to benzoyl peroxide, especially if they have dry or sensitive skin. You can often avoid unwanted side effects by choosing acne treatment products with low concentrations of benzoyl peroxide, like Proactiv. 2.5 percent works for most people.
Most people don’t experience severe side effects, but benzoyl peroxide can cause dryness, irritation, and peeling. Some people even experience swelling. Make sure that you start off easy with the products. Don’t just jump in by applying the product to your face multiple times a day. Use a small amount once a day at first to make sure that the product will help you become acne free without harming your skin. After you have used it for several days, you can start using the treatment according to the directions, which may indicate two or three applications per day.
If you experience any severe reactions to your acne treatment, then contact a dermatologist. Not everyone can be acne free by following this advice, so you may need special instructions from an experienced doctor.
