All About Pimples

We’re all intimately familiar with pimples. You probably had a few pimples yourself when you were a kid. Maybe you still have a couple right now. But when you’re a teenager, there’s almost nothing more upsetting than seeing an array of these red spots laid out across your face like some sort of constellation of red stars. If your kid has a pimple or two that has popped up in the wrong place at an inopportune time, that’s just a part of growing up. If your child has persistent serious concentrations of pimples though, you may want to take action.

What Are Pimples?

What exactly are pimples? Pimples are, of course, a type of acne, generally the most common kind. They appear as a result of clogged pores, those open areas in your skin around the hair follicles. Your sebaceous glands secrete sebum, which becomes mixed with dead skin cells, along with acne causing bacteria and possibly dirt and oil. This mixture clogs the pore and causes what is called a pimple to form.

Who Gets Pimples?

Anyone who has skin can get pimples. Because of the nature of teenage skin, possibly with increased hormone production as a contributor, acne seems to occur more frequently during the teenage years. However, it can potentially appear on anyone at any age. Pimples may also occur not just on the face, but almost anywhere on the body where there is skin, from the scalp to the feet. Pimples and other acne are most commonly noticed on the face, however, simply because that is the part of the body that most of us see on a daily basis.

What Can Be Done About Pimples?

You should start by stressing the importance of good hygiene. Regular face washing with quality soap and warm water can reduce acne to some extent. In addition, washing and general good hygiene practices can improve your child’s overall health, both now and in the future. Unfortunately, especially with serious outbreaks, just washing may not be enough.

That’s why there’s Proactiv. The Proactiv system of products is formulated with benzoyl peroxide, which has been clinically proven to be effective in the treatment of pimples and other forms of acne. The Proactiv system is designed both to reduce current outbreaks and minimize the occurrence of future outbreaks. It does this in part by allowing the benzoyl peroxide to penetrate deep into the skin, where it can unclog pores and kill acne causing bacteria.

More on Pimples and Teens

Even if your teen starts using Proactiv, he or she may not see results right away. Pimples don’t form in a day, and they don’t disappear that quickly either. However, if he or she follows the Proactiv system and uses the products as directed, your teen has a great chance of seeing results, sometimes as early as a week or two. Try Proactiv for your teen today and start him or her on the road to clearer skin and a happier, more fun social life.
